Quote Response

Quote from "The Lottery" By Shirley Jackson
"Tessie Hutchinson was in the center of a cleared space by now, and she held her hands out desperately as the villagers moved in on her. It isn't fair, she said. A stone hit her in the head."

I Chose this quote because it is not until now that you know exactly what is going to happen to the person chosen in this lottery. Shortly before this you get the feeling that the lottery may be something undesirable yet it is not stated and for the majority of the story it is unknown what the lottery determines.

Post 3

The first person I interviewed was my girlfriend Brandi. When I asked her what she reads and why? She answered "Lately I do not have time to read much besides text books for college". This is something I can relate to being we live together and we are both students and parents. Brandi also said that when she can squeeze in time she enjoys books by Anne Rule, Dean Koontz and John Grisham. The second person I interviewed was my dad. My dad answered that he has read hundreds of books over the years and he can not choose a favorite, he said that lately he has enjoyed a few conspiracy theory books. The last person I interviewed was an old friend and he answered that he recently read "The DA VINCI CODE" and even though it was not an accurate account of history he still enjoyed it.

My Reading Life

I can not remember the exact age that I learned to read it seems that I have enjoyed reading for most of my life. Reading is something that was common in my house growing up, my dad would read various books ranging from Stephen King to books on politics. I read quite often until about 5th grade when I started getting interested in other things like B.M.X. (bicycle moto-cross) after that time frame I still read but it was much less often. The last 6 or so years I have been reading more than in the past. The most recent books were by Richard Dawkins. "The Greatest Show on Earth - The Evidence For Evolution" and "The God Delusion".

My Blog

Hello everyone,
my name is Christopher Dufer
last name pronounced Dufwah
this is my second term as a distance learner with E.O.U. and I really enjoy it. Before starting at E.O.U. I was taking classes at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, OR. and I still take classes there as well. I am currently a sophomore in college and I am working toward a degree in Anthropology / Sociology. Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my family. My girlfriend and I have 3 children, 2 girls (4 and 5) and 1 boy who turns 2 in August. As a family we enjoy hiking short trails to waterfalls, swimming, painting and many other things. My primary use of this blog will be to discuss reading for a literature course.
